I find it odd (though maybe I shouldn’t) that members of a denomination whose very name enshrines an ideology of white supremacy has the hardest time acknowledging, all these years later, the concept of systemic sin and injustice. I say this as a longtime member of an SBC church
There’s good work to be done (maybe it’s already out there) defining systemic sin & racism within the language of principalities & powers. Seems conceptually like a layup. But the resistance to perceive this connection speaks either to willful ignorance or rigid fundamentalism.
In the end, I think what is saddest about this debate is that *amongst Christian brothers and sisters* the grief and lament of a hurting and oppressed community is met with skepticism, defensiveness, and scorn.
