Recently I have expressed my anger and frustration on Twitter at a few people who self identify as ‘moderates’ (hate that word)
It isn’t just because they trawl twitter looking for Corbyn supporters to attack - it is because they are a threat to party renewal...
and a return to hate free politics and a @UKLabour government
It is right to be very angry about the wasted five years
It is fine to want to those responsible held to account
I’m still thinking about updating this but with every week that passes the signs on Twitter are that a lot of people really are intent on belonging to an internal tribal fan club not a political party
http://labour-uncut.co.uk/2020/04/08/finally-corbyn-is-gone-but-lets-not-trade-the-sainted-jezza-for-the-cult-of-keir/
Personally I think the early signs are good: A leader who is carefully looking at issues and holding the government to account when necessary
A shadow cabinet sticking to their briefs
A joined up approach from shadow cabinet ministers
In time I’m sure there will be disagreements
But that happens and it is healthy
And maybe it will take time for some of those tweeting ‘under new management’ to accept that also means they have to change and their behaviours need to change or it is just words
I think every CLP should be subjected to a ‘health check’ and those found wanting should be placed in ‘special measures’ regardless of any factionalism - just good housekeeping and part of rebuilding for the future
If CLP secretaries or others refuse to comply with directions or requests from the general secretary, or act in contravention of such instructions they should be suspended from their post (not membership) - it is a position that carries responsibilities not a personal fiefdom
So if you must have a label be a ‘labourite’ not a ‘Starmerite’ or a ‘insertleaderite’
That way we might just win in 2024 and I do believe that is possible and this ‘sort of’ explains why
http://labour-uncut.co.uk/2020/02/06/dont-believe-the-doubters-labour-can-win-in-2024/comment-page-1/
And if we don’t win let it be because we didn’t convince enough people to vote for us and not because some people were more interested in rows with internal opponents on Twitter
Finally on this, and we all have a role to play, years ago a tory politician accepted they had become ‘the nasty party’
We have to accept that is how many see us now and we won’t change that perception by demonstrating how nasty we can be
