Gotta say, I'm hugely disappointed with #AVFC's off-season performance. We were extraordinarily lucky to survive last season: frankly, had there not been the shutdown we'd have been relegated in April. As it was we cobbled together a defence and basically blocked it out til the

proverbial close of play, picking up *just* enough points whilst everyone else around us dropped bollocks. Nonetheless, we stayed up and finally had the chance to kick on, with one of the best players in the league and supposedly megarich owners ready to splash the cash #AVFC

But instead, the off-season has been dreadful. We started by unfairly sacking our sporting director (even if the writing was on the wall, in which case why was he not replaced far sooner?) and then got caught out in a moment of inertia when we could have been maximising… #AVFC

our hand in the transfer market. Instead, we waited until the end of August to make our first move, deciding to (bizarrely) focus on improving a position of strength in the squad, rather than prioritising improvements up front, where we're clearly deficient #AVFC

Yes, in bringing in Shakespeare we've undoubtedly improved our coaching staff but ultimately, it's the lads on the field that win you and lose you points and with Wesley out for some months yet and Heaton not there for the first few rounds of fixtures, we're weaker than… #AVFC

When we stayed up, I was massively relieved, then really excited. I thought we'd turned a corner and could start being a club that was taken seriously again.

Instead, we're up there as favourites to go down once again, weaker than we were before #AVFC

This is true and something else I should've added: if we have been active and just been rejected all over the shop, that's just as bad as the reverse.
