Thread :
It is already known that between the 29th and the 31st of August, India captured dominating (and contested) heights on both sides of Spangur Gap, securing entire Spangur Bowl.
But what did China lose ?
Let us examine the losses of the adversary.
Over decades, PLA has invested a lot of effort in its Moldo base thinking Moldo secures Spangur Gap and opens up the way for invasion not only into Chushul sector but for future invasion upto Leh.
Unparalleled sacrifices have been made to secure Chushul. https://twitter.com/ukshahi/status/1272822926253780992?s=19
Now newly occupied Indian heights at Requin La overlook PLA garrison in Moldo.
Arguably the most important PLA base at the LAC is in line of sight of Indian troops and Indian guns too.
Obviously, China is very very upset.
This is China's biggest loss. https://www.theweek.in/news/india/2020/09/02/india-now-controls-dominating-heights-in-chushul-sector.html
This is why China is unnerved. As per their own satellite imageries, one of the most important bases of PLA at LAC is redundant.
Efforts of decades in securing Moldo stand blown in smithereens. PLA base at Moldo is in direct line of sight of Indian guns. https://twitter.com/detresfa_/status/1302119100030754816?s=19
Beijing lost face. As explained in the article in the quoted tweet, given how centralized the Chinese military decision making is, every PLA operation has prior sanction of Chairman of the Chinese Military Commission (who is Chinese President himself). https://twitter.com/ukshahi/status/1301098660361416707?s=19
As mentioned in the article quoted in the above tweet, the General Secretary of CCP was reportedly very upset at PLA leadership in the area because PLA troops meekly withdrew and didn't engage as Indian Army swiftly occupied tactical heights all over the region in the sector.
Besides losing strategic heights in Chushul, seeing their base at Moldo become useless in terms of its tactical importance, Beijing has lost big money too.
Chinese Cos have potentially lost 150-200 Billion USD. Surprised? Scroll through the quoted thread. https://twitter.com/ukshahi/status/1301842266621751297?s=19
For far too long (read decades), China has had a free run as it kept occupying Indian territories year after year.
Recent pre-emptive offensive operations in Chushul sector signal a departure from the old doctrine of strategic restraint.
The Government of India has given a go ahead. The military has acted. The playbook is changing. I hope this was not a one-off event.
What remains to be seen now is how PLA reacts to developments in Chushul. The Chinese warfare is based on deception. https://twitter.com/ukshahi/status/1286231329202302976?s=19
