I thought I was done; I am not. It must be fucking nice to have the luxury to decide that you don& #39;t want to deal with the real world when you enter a fandom space. I am not able to make that choice. Can& #39;t shed my skin or my lived experience when I want to enjoy myself. /1
I envy the shit out of you who can refer dismissively to the "unpleasantness." I wish I had the option to say, "i know it& #39;s important to stand up for black people, but sometimes I just don& #39;t wanna & #39;cause it& #39;s haaaaahhhhhhrrrrrd." /2
I wish that I could choose to ignore the real world and opt out of it enough that I felt entitled to refer to people less fortunate than me as "sheep" and "bullies" and "haters." /3
And I know that chronic illness and mental health issues are a thing. They wear people down and limit the amount of stuff they can deal with. But do you . . . think they don& #39;t affect BIPOC? /4
Do you think that we can decide that we do not want to think about current events in the real world? (spoiler: we can& #39;t; it might get us harmed or killed) /5
I have had to explain to more than one person recently that "Black Lives Matter" means far more than "could we please not get murdered by cops?" It means "please treat us as human beings." /6
It means "please remember our humanity when you deal with us." It means "we are people with feelings, who experience the same life you do." We also have mental health issues, chronic illnesses, and when it comes down to it, we want the same thing you do. /7
We want to live honestly and comfortably with a minimum of fuss. This means we also want to enjoy things. And when we try to enjoy things, it would be nice if someone at least pretended to care about not making people feel shitty when they& #39;re just trying to have fun. /8
I don& #39;t know when we as a society decided saying someone did a racist thing was worse than the actual racist thing that got done. But here we are. And when someone does something racist, it doesn& #39;t mean pitchfork and torch time. It means please undrstnd why this upset people. /9
It means let& #39;s talk about this so that we can all learn and make sure it doesn& #39;t happen again. We& #39;ll all learn, and we& #39;ll all move on, and we& #39;ll all continue having a good time. /10
I can& #39;t tell you how sad I am that I& #39;ve seen time and time again recently that people in my fandom care far more about making sure that shit gets swept under the rug than about making sure there& #39;s nothing under the fucking rug for anyone to trip on in the first damn place. / 11
