Okay, I gotta talk about this bc I am BIG MAD about #LovecraftCountry and I can't get over it. I'm like laying here at 2AM just being mad about it.

TW Anti-Indigenous & anti-Two-Spirit violence

#LovecraftCountry introduced a two-spirit Native character who wasn't in the book so she could tell a story of white violence and slaughter while surrounded by the dead bodies of her family... 2/

...including the fact that the body of an Indigenous woman holding the body of her infant appeared to have been mummified and posed for display after death... 3/

...then they show the Two-Spirit character full-frontal naked so we could be sure to see "omg breasts and penis!" while a main character literally asks her "what are you?" in clear reference to her breasts and genitals... 4/

... & she (pronouns used by other characters for her) answers "Man, Woman, Two-Spirit," BEFORE SHE IS ASKED HER NAME OR HOW SHE JUST LITERALLY ROSE FROM THE DEAD OR WHY SHE IS WHERE SHE IS.

Her body is the focus of the cis gaze.5/

I feel like I gotta repeat that she LITERALLY JUST ROSE FROM THE DEAD and the first thing the cis people ask about is -- essentially -- her fucking dick. It's SO gross.

"Well, that was disgusting but at least we have this character, I guess. I'm looking forward to seeing how they develop Yahima... "

...SHE'S KILLED OFF IN THE LAST MINUTE OF THE EPISODE BY A MAIN CHARACTER FOR NO APPARENT REASON. 8/

I've been fucking nauseous about this all night. This character and the sequences around her feel clearly ancillary, not at all necessary, and put in as porn for non-Indigenous and cis viewers at Yahima's cost. 9/

The actress (Monique Candelaria) does a fantastic job with what she's given, but holy shit, this episode made me sick to my stomach and I'm not sure I'm gonna watch another episode of #LovecraftCountry .
