I had trouble dealing with some patients when I first came to the Klang Valley after 3+years working in Sabah.

The level of entitlement, wastage of resources, disregard of their own health in a setting with good access to health facilities enraged me so much when I thought.. https://twitter.com/aidilarazak/status/1302226795232505858">https://twitter.com/aidilaraz...
..how little many Sabahans had and how they struggled to just get to a Klinik Desa, not even to a hospital. The contrast of attitudes between some KV residents & Sabahans to the healthcare service was so jarring. I’ve lost patients, or had patients with long term morbidity bcoz..
..they couldn’t get to a proper healthcare facility on time or delayed seeking medical help bcoz they didn’t have ID bcoz they never had their births registered bcoz everything was so far away.
It stressed me out so much initially that I’m ashamed to say that I lost my temper with several of my pts because of their lackadaisical attitude. I kept thinking of how my pts in Sabah would kill to get what you r just throwing away here.
I got hauled up by my bosses a few times for that.

My short time in Sabah was some of the best and worst times of my life. I learned a lot but in no way do I want to romanticize the deprivation there that ALLOWED me to hone my clinical skills.
