Maria’s crying hurts. Because I know how much this hurts her because she’s been 10 toes down from day one. I commend Kirk for this transparency. Honestly one of the most powerful moments I’ve seen from a white man on ESPN in my lifetime. I do have more thoughts, though. https://twitter.com/RexChapman/status/1302298513028591616">https://twitter.com/RexChapma...
I want white people to cry. They should cry because we’ve been crying, fighting and dying about this for generations. And all too often it’s been we’re overreacting, we’re complaining, or we’re expecting a handout. But some will be so quick to point out “Black on Black crime.”
But if you’re so concerned about that, then also be so concerned about police brutality as well because this isn’t some mythical phenomenon. You know it’s happening. But trying to blame us for it doesn’t help you sleep better at night regardless what you believe.
Kirk quoted David Shaw about justice being served wont ever happen until those not impacted by injustice are just as angered as those who are. That goes for so many things across the board: racism, sexism, domestic violence, hate crimes against LGBTQ.
But in this case we’re talking about racism. It’s fitting Kirk says this on the same day Trump mandated all government agencies stop racial sensitivity training. Because while white tears are powerful, those tears gotta be backed up with real legitimate action.
These last four years have changed a lot of people. So many of our grandparents and beyond have been waiting for their pain and society’s past to come to a reckoning. But if you’re truly upset, then help make the change. And this isn’t with November’s election.
Excuse me. Isn’t *just* with November’s election. Because that’s important as hell.
