Oldfag insight time:

Columbine, followed by 9/11 provoked a massive cultural backlash towards counter-cultural and anti-social subcultures, groups, identities etc. Was massive, panicked desire of mainstream America to curb any and all preemptive threats now around them.
I joined the internet in 2001, a youngin but still. There was a huge exodus of people from these groups from the public eye to the digital sphere and it gave rise to most of the edgyboy content and many of the websites that would dominate the web for the early 00s
This has had two major effects. This buffet of autists, social outcasts, fringe-loving thrillseekers etc has cross-pollinated and intermingled far more than was possible before. Hybrid cultures, long dead ones resurrected digitally, entirely new ones born.
Consequently, the mainstream has been totally devoid of creative, groundbreaking spergs since this same time and has remained in stasis. Normie media remains practically the same in style and taste as 2002, vidya, music, film etc.
Eventually though, the wheel turned and the filthy cretin normalfag started working his way into the online sphere, like a bubonic stowaway on board a magnificent ship. The redditor emerged and you see how he has descended upon all things good like a locust upon corn.
So now again, we've been pushed out of our space, this time the digital one, and what is the logical outcome of that? Re-entry into public sphere again, reclaiming physical ownership of 'our space' after 20 years of cross pollination and incubation.
This also is producing a kind of resentment in them as well, for some reason they assumed that once they got us off the digital sphere, we'd stop existing, the same way they thought once they got us out of the IRL 20 years ago, we'd stop existing.
Oh well, I mean I feel like I'm gonna have a blast, 20 years of seasoned, matured autism pouring forth on reality like a deluge on a dry desert. The wheel turns again but the redditor remains salty and butthurt, as is his nature. See ya'll on the streets.
