TW racism and blackface
A thread on koreas relationship with blackface, this thread will cover a lot of upsetting material on the topic of blackface along with pictures and descriptions. There is no way to defend any of these actions so please dont try and do that here.
Characters and ideas that are either korean with 'black features' or black have been consistently described/behaved in a racist way for DECADES but its constantly refuted by saying they dont have enough 'history' w discriminating black ppl for it to be racist.
Racism isnt just in books and shows its been done by celebrities for decades and whenever its called out by international fans or koreans in korea theyre always told to be overreacting or looking for problems.
Knetizens are either lying or ignorant when theh talk about korea not having a history with blackface. There is documentation of korean comedians using blackface for comedy while knowing its wrong and hiding it since the 80s.
The blackface is literally neverending... and everyone always treats these instances as one off or as 'cosplay' of racist characters... its blackface simple as that and its wrong and it has to stop.
Recently a Ghanaian personality in South Korea called out highschool students for blackface and got an insane amount of backlash and scrutiny for it. His original intent was constantly deflected based on his own racist actions in the past. Two wrongs do not make a right.
The fact that it was consistently defended by a lot of k netizens (as you can see below) is baffling... These were all commented before sams racist actions were brought to light and the rest of the scandal was spent deflecting from the fact that korea seems to be okay w blackface
End of thread these are some of the resources i used, please stop letting this slide. Allowing racism to continue only makes it harder for black people in those situations (Im not claiming to know everything about this topic)
