For anyone freaking out about the "market": My PhD is from Yale, I have a book contract and 5 articles in top journals, & have won multiple grants and fellowships for my 2nd book research. After 4? 5? cycles, still no permanent job. My point is this:

It’s not you. Even in a year with a reasonable amount of job postings, it wouldn’t have been you. Anyone currently in a permanent academic position has simply benefited from the particular whims of what was most likely a very fickle and downright unstable committee.

It has taken me a very long time to come to terms with that and make peace with my place (or not) in this profession.
