(1) I tell this story every year, but to all the Hokies and Wahoos who got cut today by the NFL, consider this.

In 2001, Virginia Tech's Nick Sorensen signed as an undrafted free agent with the Miami Dolphins. I worked with his Dad, and his office was down the hall from mine.
(2) In the final cuts before the regular season, Nick got cut by the Dolphins. He came home, and would occasionally come by the office to see his Dad. Naturally the question was "what are you going to do?" Nick said he'd work out every day and be ready in case the phone rang
(3) Midway through the season, Nick's Dad comes in my office all excited. The Rams called and invited Nick to try out for a spot on the practice squad. They liked that he was good on special teams. He went, and made the practice squad.
(4) A week or two later, Nick's Dad was really excited. An injury to a Rams player resulted in Nick moving up to the 53-man roster. He was going to play in the NFL. He only played special teams, but he was in every game. And by every game in 2001, that included the Super Bowl.
(5) So by working out every day and being ready, Nick went from sitting around talking to a couple of old men, to playing in a Super Bowl in a matter 3 months. When you see Adam Vinatieri kick the game-winning FG for New England, No. 41 for the Rams who almost blocks it is Nick.
(6) Nick ended up playing 9 years in the NFL and has been a coach with Seattle Seahawks since 2013, where he participated in 2 more Super Bowls.

So never quit. Today may not be the end after all and could actually be the beginning.

Just have to be ready when that phone rings.
