Per the report, the level of force the authorities are bringing to BLM protests is uniquely heavy-handed:

"Data show that they have disproportionately used force while intervening in demonstrations associated with the BLM movement, relative to other types of demonstrations."
In addition, counter-protests, within this same time period have turned to violence 12% of the time (higher than the 7% associated with the #BLM demonstrations).

(Just for context however, the number of counter protests is only 360 compared to the 7,750 #BLM protests analyzed.)
Despite data indicating that demonstrations associated with the #BLM movement are overwhelmingly peaceful, one recent 538 poll suggested that 42% of respondents believe “most protesters [associated with the BLM movement] are trying to incite violence or destroy property”.

Why?
The reasoning, from the report: "Research from the University of Washington indicates that this disparity stems from political orientation and biased media framing, such as disproportionate coverage of violent demonstrations."

I.e. sensationalism gets more clicks than the truth.
In addition, the ADL documented disinformation campaigns spreading: “deliberate mischaracterization of groups or movements [involved in the protests], such as portraying activists who support Black Lives Matter as violent extremists"

Again, this claim is DESPITE the actual data.
As I reach the end of this thread, I'm well aware that data like this is not going to sway people who would rather the conversation be about 'violent protests' rather than the substance that the protests are built upon, however I do see value in sharing it for those interested.
