I am not on here much at the moment but inspired by talking up She Who Became the Sun in my other tweet I thought I would duck in to update on great stuff I’ve been reading or am about to.
I am currently enjoying the hell out of the final book in @KA_Doore ’s Chronicles of Ghadid, the Unconquered City. Excited to see the threads from the other books coming together, seeing characters I’d hoped to see again (!!) & admiring the superb, deeply original worldbuilding
I managed to procure an early copy of the sublime Once and Future Witches by @AlixEHarrow who is one of those rare writers who can make me laugh out loud and then punch me real quick in the heart in the same paragraph. Just ... everything.
On audio I recently finished & enjoyed @MacMartell’s Kingdom of Liars and @fictionlisbeth ’s The Vanished Queen, both relatively low-magic high-politics stories which centre around characters deeply wronged by bad Kings and the social changes around rebellion against monarchy.
Up next in unreleased to read I have @freyamarske ‘s A Marvellous Light queued up - wit, character & mystery, and @ej_beaton ‘s The Councillor, which is about politics, ambition, addiction & finding power
Also the Jasmine Throne by one of my favourite modern fantasists, @tashadrinkstea, starring fierce lesbians and doubtless with Tasha’s brilliant writing and worldbuilding
(Also a Sekrit beta read for a friend which I have been looking forward to for literal years and she’s finally sent it to me, but can’t talk about it yet!)
Other things either on my shelf or soon to be that I am looking forward to - @AndreaGStewart ’s debut The Bone Shard Daughter, @KateElliottSFF ‘s Unconquerable Sun, @melisscaru ’s Obsidian Tower, @MeganEOKeefe ’s Chaos Vector, @hg_parry’s Declaration of the Rights of Magicians
And I’ve got others I know I’m going to love - @EvanWinter ‘s Rage of Dragons, @c_t_rwizi ‘s Scarlett Odyssey for eg, and I’ve been holding off to savour Empire of Gold, knowing it will end one of my favourite fantasy trilogies of recent years - Daevabad by @SAChakrabooks
I’ve doubtless forgotten things but as you can see, we are swimming in top quality SFF right now and you should go read some or all of the stuff in this thread!
