Making white characters black for an art piece isn't the same as white washing because white children have all these characters they can "relate" with and look up to but what do little black boys and girls have? Not a whole lot.
So some artists will draw white characters-
As black to give these girls some hope. Someone to look up to as an icon. Even if it's just a little bit.
Now I can see how some people don't really understand that, and that's because you've never been in a situation where you feel like you'll never achieve someone cause everyone on TV has a diffrent skin color than you. But please don't invalidate these artists for trying-
To give young black people hope and joy. Just try and understand the shoes of the kids who just want someone who's like them achieve and be great.
Thank you for reading this thread I felt it was important to state this blatantly because I know people don't understand-
And see it as a negative without looking deeper into it and I feel like instead of insulting and calling young white people racist, to educate them like I was educated
While I'm at it I'll explain why white washing however is bad. Like I said before white people have all these icons to look up to while black people have hardly any. So why would you take that away? Why would you take away the hope of a black icon to make them white? Idk man
