Burnout is real. You could be in the process of sabotaging yourself and not even realize it. Allow me to paint you a picture:
Obviously this year is impossibly difficult for everyone, especially for those who battle mental illness. Many people (particularly your elders that don’t know any better) will tell you to just keep yourself busy/distracted and to stay positive.
While this is good advice in some circumstances, this can be DEVASTATING if you follow it blindly. Someone tries to keep their depression at bay by constantly keeping busy. You grind schoolwork, personal projects, anything you can do to keep it all of your mind
This will kill you!! You will feel overwhelmed. You will feel confused and conflicted. What can seem to help at first can tear you down if you bottle it all up and don’t let yourself feel what you need to feel.
I used to think this was the logical approach because I have a tendency to be a moron. If I ever told you this before, please do me a favor and fucking yell at me
I let myself sit in my pajamas and watch TV for half a day. Just half a day, after being on the move for weeks. I feel MAGNITUDES better. You HAVE to look out for yourself. Don’t listen to everything people tell you.
And if this doesn’t work for you or you don’t agree with it, let me know. I’m not a psychologist. But do know that what can seem effective at first could be a path to a mental bear trap.
rant over. tl;dr take care of yourselves.
