Since I totally failed at finding the car caravan I’m out here at Lents for the 100 Days 100 Nights celebration of Black excellence. Currently Jordan Fletcher is performing believe the song is called “Paranoid,” one lyric that stood out is “I wear a hoodie because Trayvon can’t.”

Fletcher between songs talked about growing up in North Portland and said what they did to Alberta is disgusting—likely referencing mass gentrification and displacement.

Said his grandma was pushed out of her home due to various issues in Portland where Black families were forced to leave their homes and relocate. “Every street I grew up on is gone because it’s gentrified,” Fletcher said after the next song

Linneas talking about the art therapy events and coming into his voice through activism. Said he was criticized for “being part of the problem.” Linneas was confused, not understanding how making art to chill beats for Black Lives Matter is a problem.

He said the music is like those videos where you watch a girl studying for hours looking at her cat. This is hilarious if you listen to lo-fi chill beats online. I am one of these people. It’s awesome, I love it.

He said the next art therapy for Black Lives Matter event is Sept 23rd from 1 to 5 at Irving Park.

Now Destiny is reading Maya Angelou’s “Still I Rise”

Destiny read some more poems, the last poem she read had two poignant lines for white people and colonialism that is perpeuated constantly: “the axe is a part of your history but it is not you...” “you will find yourself going from tree to tree and wondering what happened.”

That last poem is one of Destiny’s poems and isn’t totally finished yet but it is called, “The Tree.”

At one point Regina got on the microphone after another Black person was saying they couldn’t say all cops were bastards because they don’t believe that. Regina ended her rebuttal with “No good cops in a racist system” chant

2/3 of this moment that ended the event on an odd but important note

Linneas then came on the mic to talk about how not all Black people’s experiences are the same. Said he won’t police how people protest but urged night protesters to think about whether or not they are out there for the right reasons because those actions impact POC communities.

Then @cremebruleepdx reiterated that Black people are not a monolith and proceeded to DJ and set the mood for a dance party

This playground is amazing and looks to have been designed at least a little bit with accessibility in mind. During the non-pandemic times those xylophone and drums not pictured would be very enticing.
