just casually job hunting and came across an interesting role as a producer at a big Glasgow festival and arts venue. I clicked through to find out more. and pals, I am so tired of this nonsense... let me elaborate
23-27k a year is not enough for someone with the level of experience that's expected in the role. that's a non professional salary which barely scrapes living wage
for some reason this job is freelance. full time...
barely paying living wage to a freelance worker, so they won't cover tax, any holidays, sick pay, compassionate leave etc. they also expect this person to provide their own equipment.
in the job description they mention part of their programme is centring Black artists and therefore "we are looking for... someone with an understanding of the lived experiences of Black people and/or people of colour"

wow.
so they want to hire a professional, highly experienced Black person and they'll pay them next to nothing with no job security and expect them to be their face of diversity? these two orgs desperately need to do better.
it's so disappointing to see this. what if they get sick? what if they have kids and need flexible hours? what if they need an employed contract to secure a tenancy? how many people do these conditions exclude?
