The Survey Corps's purpose is human expansion, titan research, and outside exploration. This hugely differs from the other branches in the fact that it inherently is inquisitive. You don't need to want more to be in the MP or Garrison branches. It'd be easy to live a safe

life inside the walls without actually pushing to the the goal that are found in the SC. In other words, you need to want more than a just defense against titans and an easy life. You need to want more and know what's out there in the world which may or may not even benefit you.

Erwin Smith, who was the greatest commander ever, fit such a position perfectly. Ever since he was young he had an absolutely inquisitive mind. He yearned and longed to know more about the world than those around him. That made him special.

Ever since he was young he had dreams of learning about the truth of his world and knowing what's out there. What didn't he question? As a young child he saw through the facade taught in his school and questioned it. At the start he needed more than just being complacent in life.

He wanted to and later on in life, did push the boundaries of human exploration and changed Paradis forever. He was an amazing leader. what made him perfect to lead the SC was his curious mind.

Nile and Pixis were great leaders themselves, but for their specific branches only. They didn't have the inquisitive and curious mind that is required to lead the SC.

Armin Arlert, the current commander who succeeded Hange and Erwin, is the perfect fit to be SC commander. The only one.

Ever since Armin was young he had a curious and inquisitive mind just like Erwin did. JUST LIKE ERWIN. Ever since Armin's youth he dreamed of what was out there in the world. He yearned for the unknown. This already sets him apart from any other option to be commander.

This desire driven by curiosity is shared by all of the commanders of the SC. One doesn't just need leadership skills to command the SC. Commanding other branches requires that as well. You need more than just that to lead the SC, you need a desire for more. You need to curiosity

Jean Kirschtein absolutely excells at leadership. He'd make an amazing commander, but not of the SC. Jean isn't inquisitive like Erwin and Armin have been from the beginning. In fact, Jean originally wanted to join the MP for an easy life. (I am a Jean stan, too)

I love Jean and want him to be a commander, but not of the SC. SC commanders all need and have shown an interest for more. It's just who they are. Their curiosity makes them fit to lead human expansion, titan study, and outside exploration.

TL; DR- what makes Armin stand out and fit to lead the SC is what made Erwin and other commanders of the SC fit for their position. An inquisitive and curious mind. A need to know more.
