We dont call someone "disabled" in Islam.

A peron may have special needs but theyre more abled than people who have all their limbs but no heart.
Ibn Umm Maktum, a blind companion, was praised by Allah in the Quran as

- seeking guidance
- having Kashyah (awe and grandeur in their heart for Allah)
- having purity of heart

to such an extent Allah disciplined His Beloved Prophet for Ibn Umm Maktum's honor & status.
Surah Abasa 80 was revealed to correct the Prophet wanting guidance for Quraish leaders, but Ibn Umm Maktum being more deserving than all of them in the sight of Allah.

He was empowered and Allah loved an empowered soul even if they lack a physical ability.
Ibn Umm Maktum was seen as honorable because he honored and sought it.

He wasnt pitied.

He wasnt seen as disabled but an able soul worth than 1000 who dont have minds to reflect or hearts that have sense.

The Prophet honored him because he was qualified and honored.
Ibn Umm Maktum became

- of the reciters of Quran (Qurra)
- 2nd Ambassador to Madinah after Musab ibn Umayr
- Ibn Abd Al Barr says he was made the de facto head of Madinah when the Prophet had left; giving sermons and leading prayers as well as being leader
- Caller to Prayer
The status of faith is given to the deserving who have hearts that seek purity.

Ibn Umm Maktums story moves me.

We covered him today in Quranic Seerah 2 in the Objectives of Surah Abasa 80

What an amazing person that Allah above the heavens witnessed for his faith.

Amazing
