For someone who talks alot about mental health, @RealDeniseWelch doesn't seem to appreciate the huge effect she is having with her constant barrage of tweets about how Covid-19 isn't dangerous. 1/
I'm thrilled that she hasn't been directly affected by this god awful disease, but that doesn't mean it's not truly vile. Focusing on the death rate is not helpful, this virus works in waves- inevitably up and down 2/
But a massive of proportion of those who do not die are living with long lasting side effects that are life changing. Many of these people were asymptomatic too. 3/
I had it awfully. Was ventilated end of March. I'm still suffering with a list of side effects as long as my arm. I'm 36 and it has turned my world upside down. 4/
I understand that @RealDeniseWelch wants to encourage positive attitudes etc, but it's coming across as gaslighting those who have had FIRSTHAND experience and disagree. 5/
Many of us, (sufferers, healthcare workers, families) now have #ptsd #anxiety #survivorsguilt from our real experiences, and those with platforms such as Ms Welch's, are completely undermining what we have gone through and continue to go through. 6/
Wanting to protect our loved ones, or even strangers on the street, from something we know CAN be lethal or life changing, shouldn't be seen as a bad thing. We shouldn't be targeted, abused or seen as being 'sheep'. 7/
It's not a competition between deadly illnesses or causes of death. Surely we should be doing all we can to curb all of them, #COVID19 included? 8/
I'm sure things could have been better managed, particularly around treatments for other illnesses, but that doesn't make Covid-19 invalid as a dangerous illness. 9/
Along with other people who belittle the seriousness of Covid-19, @RealDeniseWelch has had a real impact on my mental health which was already fragile after seeing too many people die and almost dying myself. 10/
If you want to hear a very real version of #covid19 get in touch. I'm sure @MichaelRosenYes would share some of his experience with you too.
Also, take a look at @long_covid and @LongCovidSOS and see some other experiences of those who have suffered and lived.
@thismorning @GMB please, please think twice before allowing people like Piers Corbyn and Denise Welch to spout their uniformed opinions. It really is having a detrimental effect on those who are trying to recover.
