It’s not lost on me that @Sflecce & the MOE took over PDSB with the intent of dismantling its insidious racism, but have failed to fund a #SafeSeptember for Peel students - 83% of whom are Black, Indigenous, and/or racialized.
Cases are spiking in Peel - Brampton in particular.
Anti-racist work is so much more than PD & policy.
This work involves recognizing that Black, Indigenous, & racialized populations have disproportionately suffered negative effects of #COVID19. This is how systemic racism operates. It impacts every sphere of Black, Indigenous &
racialized people’s lives, including their physical and mental health.

This work involves recognizing that multi-generational homes are common in Peel, and honoring that reality with a plan that protects ALL families.

This work involves change NOW.
@Sflecce, a true anti-racist act would be to fund a #SafeSeptember for students & staff who have already been disproportionately impacted by this pandemic.

The other “stuff” becomes irrelevant if we aren’t actively doing what’s right and just for the health and safety of
Black, Indigenous and/or racialized students, staff, and their families. Take a look at data from schools around the world, take notes, and fund a safe plan. This isn’t it. #UnsafeSeptemberON #SafeSeptemberON
