OK, nobody asked for my opinion, but I'll say it anyway:
I honestly think it's fine the Mario 3D All-Stars games are rather upscaled then remade a la Spyro and Crash.

I think rather offering an authentic release with minor tweaks also has its value.
I like it when developers put much effort into remaking a game. But I really dislike the notion of making it the "definitive" way to play it and replacing the original.

Its flaws are as important as its shining moments. This is how that game is and how it is loved.
This is why I see Remakes or "modern" Remasters as entirely new experiences with a blue print. I think @TAHK0 put it very well into words how even if remasters stay 100% faithful to the source, it's made with an entirely different mindset and this, making the experience different
And this is also why I love so much what FF7R did, even re-contextualising and what it means to be a "Remake" in the industry, even tho it's a VERY bold choice, lol
