A #kacchako thread based on Ochako’s story in the new Light Novel! Let’s go!

After the hype of this in the light novel yesterday, I wanted to express my clear thoughts in this thread about what Ochako said to a child about Katsuki and some extra thoughts

So, let’s start with, “That’s not bullying...”

The child asks Ochako if she was bullied by Bakugou - referring back to the Sports Festival - and Ochako can see why the child would come to that conclusion since she knows Katsuki’s brash behavior as his classmate.

In a toned down sense - this kid is like the people who say that, “Bakugou was trying to kill her” and “He was abusive towards her during their fight”.

Horikoshi, I think, tried to defend kchk even back then during the first Sports Festival by having Katsuki say this:

Katsuki defended her, and now it’s Ochako’s turn to defend him.

Having Ochako start off with telling the child the Sports Festival was not bullying debunks the antis argument that it was.

This furthers even deeper when she continues with: “...he’s fighting seriously with me.”

Ochako meant what she said back then.

She was truly grateful that Katsuki never underestimated her and took her seriously.

Ochako even tells the child that while it’s frustrating to lose, its better than to have an opponent who holds back.

You know what I see?

Equals.

Katsuki Bakugou and Ochako Uraraka are equals.

Both don’t like to lose and rather fight someone who won’t hold back than to someone who will.

The only difference?

Their personalities.

This is where a lot of kacchako shippers say they balance each other out

No, Ochako. The child doesn’t know. This kid is probably looking at you while you both eat your mochi thinking, “Is she in love?”

It’s also SO SWEET!!

This is some soulmate sweetness right here! It also furthers what we already know and what several articles and shippers have pointed out: Ochako knows Katsuki better than anyone else, save for Kirishima who’s his best friend.

Yes, I’m even saying that she knows Katsuki better than his childhood friend: Deku I’m sticking with that and nobody can change my mind.

Ochako accepts and sees Katsuki for who he truly is, and if that’s not potential for this ship to become canon I don’t know what is...

You guys also remember that Ochako finds Katsuki’s foul mouth funny? The fact that she also accepts that part of him is just

The child agrees that saying bad words is bad, but Ochako DEFENDS KATSUKI AGAIN by saying that Katsuki wouldn’t be Katsuki if he didn’t say bad words.

THE LOVE AND ACCEPTANCE, I -

Can we just talk about Mama Uraraka? She notices that Ochako is in deep thought about her assignment the students have, and innocently thinks to what Deku might write about. She then tells Ochako that it’s important to think about her studies, but doesn’t she have a love interest

Her dad freaks out and starts rambling on about boyfriend and marriage, and he tells her she’s too young to get married.

Mr. Uraraka, I know you love your baby girl, but CHILL

Uraraka gets flustered, not over the fact of Deku, but because of what her dad was saying.

If my dad talked about marriage and having a boyfriend in front of me and several other people then yeah, I’d be blushing too.

I know that a lot of people were upset with the second half of Ochako’s story because of the fact her crush was brought up again, but the fact that+

She wasn’t blushing over Deku, only the subjects being brought up, makes me think that her crush on him could slowly be going away It’s a possibility because she never thinks about having Deku as a boyfriend or marriage with him.

If that were the case she would have probably thought of those images of him and her dating and eventually getting married, and would have waved her arms frantically in the air from embarrassment while shouting, “B-Boyfriend?! M-Marriage?! With D- um- I-“

Instead, she does think about eventually getting married, but there’s still more things she has to do like being a hero (girl’s focused on work, not crushes )

I want to point out not once does she think about Deku when she thinks to eventually getting married.

Does this foreshadow that she doesn’t see herself getting married to him? Is their relationship all just a high school crush that most of us get over once we graduate and move on with our lives? (Save for the small percentage that do marry their high school crushes)

Nothing definite and just a speculation, but it does make you wonder...

On a personal side note, I do think Ochako is getting over her crush on Deku. Her story may be hinting at it because she’s more focused than ever on her hero work and future, so we’ll see!

Going back to Kacchako though!

Mochi! Let’s talk about mochi! The meaning behind it, and how it ties back to our babies

Origin: Mochi was created in Japan by Frances Hashimoto! The pounding process of making mochi originated from China though, so thank you

Mochi in Japan is a dessert that is filled with ice cream that comes in flavors of strawberry, green tea, and vanilla!

Mochi is a dessert that the Japanese often use for New Year’s. Hence, Ochako making Mochi for the neighborhood for New Year’s

Meaning’s Behind Mochi:

- When two people make Mochi it means that they hold a deep bond of trust for one another

- Mochi is often used to describe someone with chubby cheeks (In this case Ochako )

- While Mochi often means good fortune (future rich Pro Hero Ochako?) it also is a talisman for good marriage (We’ll get to that in a second)

- Making Mochi (Mochi pounding) is sometimes referenced as a sexual innuendo

Katsuki also one time made Ochako Mochi using Kirishima - he canonically knows that she loves sweets! Proven in Chapter 272 of the manga

Now going back to Mochi being a talisman of good marriage... *feral grins*

The fact that marriage was brought up in Ochako’s story, Ochako making Mochi, Katsuki and Ochako usually making Mochi together... MORE foreshadowing??

Kacchako marriage?

Ochako describes herself as strong Mochi in her story, and I think that’s the cutest thing because more often than not in kacchako fics Katsuki references Ochako to Mochi and tells her that she’s stronger than she thinks.

Hori? You reading kacchako fanfics now?

I also want to talk about the fact people say, “Kacchako has potential, but Deku and Ochako are probably going to be canon ship at the end of the series.”

Not dismissing this statement, BUT WHERE’S PEOPLE FAITH???

This light novel just sealed the deal with me

Not saying kacchako will be canon, but after this light novel and all the other hints and crumbs... Hori is writing kacchako beautifully and knows what he’s doing, so I’m not worried.

The full circle with Katsuki defending Ochako and then her defending him 200+ chapters later?

AND DON’T FORGET THERE’S STILL THE POSSIBILITY OF MORE KACCHAKO HINTS AND CRUMBS THAT ARE EVEN BETTER THAN THIS!!! AND THERE’S A TIMESKIP COMING UP!!!

I get excited just thinking about it!

I know, I KNOW, we’re in for a slow burn with this ship - obviously, but just hang on

The best ships are the ones that take the longest to get together, and they have the most development!

It might not mean anything, but the fact that kacchako is the most popular hetero ship in Japan speaks volumes Hori’s going to listen to himself and his Japanese audience before the western audience, so take this info how you will

I definitely do think kacchako is possibly going to be canon. It’s just going to take us a minute to get there, but I’m telling you guy’s it’s going to be so worth it in the end!

Overall, I enjoyed Ochako’s story in the new light novel! I loved the kacchako content, her hilarious and caring parents, and Ochako putting her dreams for becoming a hero first
