1. I’m proud to have been a part of 1 of Zim’s finest radio station,3FM when we championed & promoted a new genre of Zim music! Contrary to popular belief that e Zim “Urban Groove” revolution was brought about by my bro,Jonathan Moyo’s 75% local content..
2. Radio 3 was already “championing” tracks by a Zim group, A Piece Of Ebony,formed by homie,Herbert Schwarmbom in 1991 ,a Piece Of Ebony feat Chiwoniso Maraire,George Phiri & produced by e legendary Keith Farquhasson.
3. Radio 3 targeted e urban youth & middle class,bridging e generation gap & so-called class divide. Radio 2 on e other hand played almost 100% local content w a massive listenership,both urban & rural. Radio 1 targeted e “adult contemporary” demographic.
4. At Radio 3,we didn’t want to duplicate e vibes played on our sister station,Radio 2 by playing e same museve based music,we wanted to compliment them by introducing fresh new urban vibes,attracting a whole new audience in e process while keeping abreast ..
5. with international music trends! The world is an oyster,a global village,there was absolutely no need to shut out international artistes! Vibes from e likes Fortune Muparutsa ,the Grand Daddies of Zim Urban Grooves, were championed on e Radio 3 airwaves !
7. There was a new demographic emerging among urban listeners. “Ma salad” ,or “ma nose” spoke,lived & listened 2 soul & RnB ,yes,largely driven 2 those genres by Radio 3 DJs ,it therefore required tactic 2 lure them 2 locally produced vibes,& we played our
