psa: liberals are (unconsciously or otherwise) gatekeeping sociopolitical spaces. denouncing class disparities and expecting everyone to have theoretical backing for their opinions in the same breath? what are these double standards?

most of india barely has the means to access literary/scholarly works. it's okay for their opinions to be based on practical knowledge or simply an understanding of right and wrong. it's good to call others out on their ignorance, when do we check our own privilege?

recently, @AnkushBahuguna has been posting videos of himself wearing makeup and ppl seem to have a problem w it because that doesn't overhaul heteronormative structures. but, please take a moment to realize the kind of impact it's making on the kind of audience he has.

his viewers don't belong to the left-liberal intellectual minority. if a video of him, as a cishet male, putting on eyeliner is finding acceptance among a largely indian audience, it most certainly is a big deal. it's a great first step.

and when the whole @BloomsburyIndia debate happened, some of us said the book shouldn't have been banned bc "the rw doesn't read books anyway". not only is that factually incorrect but also downright condescending, esp for a group that claims to fight for inclusivity.

we're already an ideological minority in this country. to top that, we're fragmented & impatient & suffering from a severe superiority complex. being intolerant and overly critical is not going to help our cause. not to mention the hypocrisy pervading our circles.
