(Sept2010- Sept2020):
a decade of Laboratory of Mucosal Immunology (LMI) @RockefellerUniv:
variable weather, activism, sports, fun
a lot of friendship, sharing and science
a long visual 🧵 with few stats
2010-2012
Three of us started, my long-time friend Bernardo Reis, along with Greenpointer Aneta Rogoz (both not in twitter) and myself. 3 of us are still here.
Our science and lab atmosphere was imprinted by them
We also Occupied Wall St.
2010-2012
G. Victora and A. Bilate were moving to Boston, @SohailTavazoie had arrived at @RockefellerUniv 2 years prior and introduced my to legends neuroscientists, @adam_tooze's dad John was VP and Sir Paul Nurse was spreading charisma (Tooze and Nurse are surely missed at RU
2012-2014
The lab grew a bit, continued biking, some of us surfing and protesting. We began exploring neuro-immune interactions with the visit of our friend Fred Costa-Pinto
2014-2016
We had the 7x1, but also a had few victories
First big lab personnel transition, atmosphere kept getting better
IEL group kept solid, tolerance and neuro-immune groups expanded
Thiago (Carvalho) prepared his return to NYC, Gabriel and Angelina returned
2016-2018
Terrible political news in the UK, US and Brazil
But scientists supported each other
Lab grew further, renewal completed
Atmosphere is amazing , despite political setbacks
2018-2019
2nd lab transition, first Assistant Professors came out from the lab (Tomohisa Sujino, Virginia Pedicord, Daria Esterhazy)
Old friendships continue, fun and good science press on
2018-today
Lab transition completed
More transitions coming, scientific, location, political
COVID19 strikes badly NYC, changes our meeting style, but are #NYStrong
2018-today
soccer is still strong ( @Jhledo movie and narration)
2018-today
Lab friends are still around, and strong
2018-today
Victora-Nussenzweig-Mucida labs had many gatherings
2018-today
LMI retreats will continue, hopefully in person soon
10 years
>20 countries (and counting- updated pictures as soon as we can take them)
#diversity in all levels
Hopefully this country will allow such diversity and good science continue for many years to come
(hope this tweet will look good in 2 months)
