Unofficial FinTwit podcast review thread

I’m a hedge fund manager but solely my personal opinions

I subscribe to most money manager podcasts – listen to some (at 1.5-2X speed), read transcripts for others, and delete many

My unfiltered views in randomized order:
(post 0/24)
Meb Faber Show ( @MebFaber) – the Honda Accord of investing podcasts – solid, reliable, no-nonsense. Diverse guests. Good audio quality – listen at 2X to speed up Meb’s drawl. Meb asks clear questions, and reminds everyone about his farm. Transcripts on website. Recommend! (1/24)
Curious Investor ( @CliffordAsness) – factor investing for dummies. Podcast sounds like a bunch of PhD's narrating a children's book. Might be defunct as no recent episodes. Not recommended (2/24)
Masters in Business ( @ritholtz) – OG daddy of investing podcasts. Lots of “very special” C-suite but media-trained guests who choose their words very carefully. Usually ends with boomer discussion about stick shifts. Recommend skimming the transcript released Monday after (3/24)
ValueWalk ( @valuewalk) – possibly the most underrated financial podcast. Host has flat voice and quiet manner. But interviews unique guests who are niche experts. It’s the strip plaza restaurant serving unexpectedly great food. Recommend especially if topic interests you (4/24)
Flirting with Models ( @choffstein) – the Platonic ideal of a quant podcast. Corey interviews smart, candid practitioners. He asks them thoughtful questions and then gets out of the way. Need a notepad while listening - no transcripts unfortunately. Recommend! (5/24)
Superinvestors ( @jessefelder) – this podcast randomly pops up a few times a year but I always listen when it does. Interviewer understands professional money management and has top-shelf guests. No transcripts. Recommend! (6/24)
Exchanges at GS ( @jakeon10thst) – boring and everyone on it sounds like they are reading off a script - I guess bank compliance needs to pre-approve. Not recommended (7/24)
The Acquirers Podcast ( @Greenbackd) – meandering discussions but love their exuberance. Value investing is not my lane still interesting trade ideas. Transcripts on blog – Firefox Simplify Page fixes clutter when printing PDF. Recommend non-value investors read transcripts (8/24)
Animal Spirits ( @michaelbatnick, @awealthofcs) – basic podcast - buy index funds, spend money but not too much, do Whole30 or Peloton. The best part is TV/movie reviews near end. Investing discussion not recommended, but skip to last 5 min for what to watch this week (9/24)
Macro Voices ( @ErikSTownsend) – high-quality macro guests with detailed discussion decks, host is a self-taught money manager. Sends useful weekly email. Transcripts available but with a delay. Recommend reading transcripts unless you particularly like the guest (10/24)
Infinite Loops ( @jposhaughnessy) – I want to hate Jim – rich, successful boomer author, thinker, investor. But impossible to do – listening to his podcast makes me happier. Unique guests, interesting conversations. No transcripts but I love hearing Jim’s voice. Recommend! (11/24)
Trillions ( @EricBalchunas) – Eric is clear, direct and I’m old enough to get his music refs. Trillions sticks to its knitting and owns the space (ETF's). Detailed podcast descriptions – discussion is what’s promised. No transcripts. Recommend to anyone who uses ETF's! (12/24)
Odd Lots ( @TheStalwart, @tracyalloway) – wide variety of guests with strong policy tilt. Joe gets the FinTwit love & hate but Tracy asks the best questions. Good audio quality – listen at 2X. Fast-forward the intro / after parts and go straight to the guest. Recommend! (13/24)
Trend Following ( @Covel) – podcast/internet pioneer and mad respect to Michael for being first. But recently mostly book PR. Descriptions arrive delayed so need to google who the guests is. More Vietnam stories than Oliver Stone. Not recommended (14/24)
Behind the Markets ( @JeremyDSchwartz) – wide range of guests across markets/policy. Skip the Jeremy Siegel market recap/intro (buy stocks!) to Jeremy Schwartz who's a great interviewer and keeps the discussion tight. Recommend when the guest is interesting! (15/24)
Grant Williams ( @ttmygh) – everyone in finance knows Grant’s bias (the world is ending!) but his podcast has phenomenal guests. Grant/Fleck ask solid questions and discussions are unusually detailed. Enjoyable listen. No transcripts. Recommend! (16/24)
Capital Allocators ( @tseides) – focused on asset owners - a great way to learn about the other side of the desk. Interviews are clear, methodical, and follow a standard format. Great audio quality – speed up to 2X. Need to pay for transcripts. Recommend! (17/24)
Gestalt University ( @GestaltU) – quant-oriented podcast with good conversations. Hosts ask practical questions and not afraid to get into details or challenge guest. High-quality transcripts available on website with a delay. Recommend reading transcript with a pen! (18/24)
Grant's Current Yield ( @GrantsPub) – good guests, but Jim overwhelms them with leading questions and his well-known biases (love Gold/hate Fed/the interest rate is too damn low!). Poor audio quality even pre-COVID. Not recommended (19/24)
Stansberry Investor ( @Stansberry) – occasionally has unique guests on. Skip the anti-FANG rant at the beginning and listener questions at the end. No transcripts. Recommended listen if guest is interesting (20/24)
Alpha Exchange ( @Dcurnutt) – underrated podcast featuring top-quality guests and detailed discussion on volatility. Knowledgeable, experienced host. Some softball questions but overall well worth the listen. Notes for clients only. Recommend to anyone trading options! (21/24)
Macro Hive ( @Macro_Hive) – another underrated financial podcast. Unique guests (e.g. @agurevich23) with a European/international tilt. Remarkably managed to interview both India's and Pakistan’s central bankers. Recommend for policy wonks! (22/24)
Invest Like The Best ( @patrick_oshag) – hosts A-list finance/tech guests. Patrick is a curious, methodical interviewer yet has an remarkable ability to adjust conversation on-the-fly. High quality podcast transcript released about a week after episode airs. Recommend! (23/24)
Sherman Show ( @ShermanShowPod) – fast-forward the market recap at the beginning – anyone who knows what credit spreads are doesn't need to hear them read out. Conversations tend to be biased by interviewer house views. Not recommended (24/24)
