Wrestlers are not going to unionize. Not because they shouldn’t, but because having self-preservation and personally valuing your selfhood are not characteristics bolstered by the current community.

Pay your dues, die for your art, don’t question the vets. That’s wrestling.
Drive 8 hours and maybe get booked. There’s always someone else waiting for your spot. Be willing to push harder, then you’ll go farther. You’re lucky you got booked at all.
No, transportation isn’t included. No, you don’t get a hotel room. No, you won’t have time to call your match before it starts. No, you don’t get a say.
There’s only 50 people in the crowd, but you have to perform like there’s 500. There’s no time to have family and friends.

Sound like, I dunno, narcissistic emotional abuse to anyone else??? These performers are not treated well, they are not shown to have value inside.
And fans are just marks who don’t know better, so the validation from fans is often not necessarily doing much to prove their worth as workers.
I think we just have to reconcile, as viewers, the extent of the sacrifices these performers make. I don’t see it getting better for wrestlers in America any time soon. They have no leverage to bargain on. 💔
And many of them are unfit to work outside of the business, due to injuries, criminal record, mental illness, or otherwise.
