first of all taste โ€“ BRO WESTERN GREEN TEA IS DISGUSTING WTFFF there are so many different types/strains of green tea, tea making is literally an ART FORM, but you will find that white people green tea usually doesnโ€™t even specify the type.
type of green tea depends on the variety of the plant, growing conditions, farming methods, processing & time of harvest.
both japanese & chinese green teas are good!! generally japanese teas are better for weight loss (contains more EGCGs) but chinese teas are less bitter. because japanese green tea contains more chlorophyll it tastes slightly โ€œgrassierโ€.
i always drink green tea in the morning before eating to boost metabolism. 3 cups a day is enough to help with weight loss & promotes thermogenesis.
you should always look up the right way to brew your type of tea. generally we do not brew green tea with just-boiled water, wait for it to cool down for 5-10min before brewing. excess boiling will damage the catechins (which help with fat-burning).
if you hate bitter teas, i recommend chinese jasmine green tea. itโ€™s naturally infused with jasmine blossoms/flower petals, & has a sweet fragrance. you can find these on ebay/amazon or in asian supermarkets. i recommend these ones <3
but japanese teas are not all bitter! sencha is the most basic/common, itโ€™s mildly sweet & you can buy it in loose-leaf form & control the concentration. however i really recommend this sencha-matcha blend from costco or amazon!! itโ€™s not bitter (pure matcha is much more bitter).
you can also get flavoured green teas if you really prefer sweeter teas. they can be infused with fruits, flowers, etc. i love green tea infused with sakura blossom!! also you can cold brew green tea to make iced tea & add fresh fruits (peach, strawberry etc) to it <3
gyokuro tea is really highly regarded, but it is more expensive as itโ€™s one of the highest-grade japanese tea, it has a sweet & fresh flavour with a flowery aroma.
ok so this is like chinaโ€™s best-kept weight loss secret lol - PU-ERH TEA!! itโ€™s not green tea, itโ€™s a type of fermented/aged tea from yunnan province (half of me is from there๐Ÿคฉ)
the leaves of pu-erh tea are fermented, the longer the better (& more expensive), so itโ€™s different from kombucha, where the brewed tea is fermented. but both have the health benefits of fermented foods (probiotics๐Ÿคฉ)
pu-erh tea helps synthesise fewer new fats while burning more stored body fat. it helps with cleansing the body & blood from toxins & fatty oils, & is good for digestion (i always shit so good after drinking it omg & it helps with bloating too)
you buy it in cake form, this is the most traditional way, i donโ€™t trust non-authentic teas that may be less high quality.
you donโ€™t drink pu-erh tea on an empty stomach, always after food because it โ€œremoves excess grease & helps your body eliminate hard-to-digest fatsโ€. it can cause an upset tummy if you do!! so good luck & enjoy drinking your tea ๐Ÿต๐Ÿต๐Ÿต
