the reason protesters march down in these nightlife districts in particular is because as I said before, rich white suburban kids who live in their bubbles believe they can escape and ignore the woes of people not like them, being perfectly complacent in their ignorance
they will continue to uphold and perpetuate white supremacy, whether they're aware or not, so long as they can live their lives uninterrupted and unburdened. . . none of the money made gets spent in the neighboring communities on the other side of main street
I can tell you that many of those patrons knew exactly what was going on in the city, and have the privilege to ignore it - they make it their dinner conversations, bar talk. . . if they stay tucked away in their "safe" spaces, they wouldn't have to deal with combating injustice
rochester is divided by racism and classism, and that entire stretch of the city is the perfect example. . . so if you would flippantly ignore the cries and demand for justice, peace, accountability, opportunity and understanding, then we will bring the movement into your space
and for white folks, that's extremely uncomfortable, so much so that they bristle at the idea and threaten violence whenever it happens, rather than opening up their hearts to compassion and understanding, and asking how to help
so if we're not receiving the resources and support we deserve, then it makes sense to me that these establishments get interrupted and disallowed to thrive until they recognize us, join the conversation and lead in the fight against white supremacy and aiding in racial justice
because news flash: we can march, protest, vote in elected officials, etc. - but the only people who can truly dismantle this systematic oppression are the people who created it
