Why BTS shouldn't be compared with other k-pop groups - a thread
We all know bts debuted in 2013 from a small company But they weren't flops as people claim them to be. They were infact monster rookies who won 4 best new artist(MMA, SMA, gaon chart music awards, GDA) Ofc no one knew coz the media never covered them.
Bts' debut song 'No more dream' entered at #14 on the billboard world digital songs on June 29th 2013. They entered billboard 200 with hyyh pt 2 at #171 on 19th Dec 2015 & also peaked at #1 on bb world albums which became the first k-pop album to spend multiple weeks at #1
Wings peaked at #26 on bb200 on 19th Oct 2016 & peaked at #1 in bb world albums. BTS had the best selling album in Korea 3 years into their career and wings was selected as best k-pop album by billboard that year. They also won 2 daesangs (aloty and aoty) in 2016.
Bts' mic drop charted at #28 on hot 100 on 16th Dec 2017. They became the first korean group to perform and win at bbma, amas and vma. They were also the first korean group to attend and perform at grammys
In 2018, BTS became the first k-pop group to deliver a speech at the UN general assembly. They partnered with unicef to stage campaigns against violence towards children and teens around the world
BTS became the 1st kpop grp to chart at #1 in bb200 with LY:tear and was appreciated by the Korean president for their work in spreading the Korean culture across the world. They also became the youngest recipients of order of cultural merit in korea.
They also became the first kpop band to grace the cover of time magazine. They made time magazine's most influential list and were named as next generation leaders
BTS became the first non-English speaking act to sell out Wembley Stadium and broke the record for the single highest-grossing engagement in Rose Bowl Stadium history. Billboard ranked BTS at #45 on their Top Touring Artists of the 2010s list, the only non-English act in the list
As of 2019, BTS are worth more than $4.65 billion to South Korea's economy each year, or 0.3 percent of the country's GDP. BTS attracted one in every 13 foreign tourists that visited South Korea and were cited as one of the key acts boosting global music sales to $19 bil in 2018.
In October 2019, The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism selected BTS as a recipient for a 'Letter of Appreciation', for showing the world the beauty of Korean traditional culture (Hangul, Hanbok, Gugak) through creative re-interpretations in their music.
BTS ranked first on the list of 'Top Rank Global Sustainable Future Leaders' at the United Nations headquarters, while BTS' fanclub, ARMY, were noted as the 'Top Rank Sustainable Global group'. Other notable people in the list include Malala and Bill Gates.
After BTS "Idol" performance at mma 2018, the National Gugak Center(primary institution for learning Korean traditional music) stated that they had to expand the amount of Korean instrument sounds available due to increased demand from Korean and foreign producers alike.
In 2020, they're honored as the youngest ever recipients to receive the James A. Van Fleet Award, in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the promotion of U.S.-Korea relations. The annual gala is scheduled to take place on 7th Oct 2020 virtually.
BTS became the first international group to get #1 on billboard hot 100 with their new single dynamite. Antis can downplay this achievement all they want but korea, korean president and the knetizen are so proud of the boys and they are the nation's pride.
CNN added BTS to their top 10 artist who transformed music in 2010s. The other artists in the list include Beyonce, drake, Kendrick Lamar, Taylor Swift etc.
BTS broke
-22 year old record by beatles
-24 year old record by Celine Dion
-36 year old record by Michael Jackson
-5 year old record of Adele
BTS has the most number of daesangs (42) and also became the first korean artist to get a daesang sweep
These are not even half of their achievements. I didnt even add their solo achievements and it's already so long. The reason I didn't add their sales and chart is coz antis say all BTS has is numbers and I wanted to show them they're so much more than just numbers
I mentioned their early chart achievements coz people have a misconception that they became successful only after 7 years and weren't doing well in their early years which was not the case. Most people don't know coz they were ignored by the kmedia.
Yeah there maybe groups in future that may top the charts or try to reach the sales of bts but it's impossible to match the cultural, economical and social impact of bts. This was a very long thread. If you make it to the last, thank you and feel free to add more💜💜💜
