Hey everybody worried that political pressure for a vaccine may harm public health?

Your future tense is incorrect. It already has. Now we will have a desperate uphill slog to convince both the antivax AND pro-science people whatever we get is safe and effective.
It’s not future. It’s not conditional. It’s here now.

We have publicly enacted the antivax conspiracy theories. We have damn near destroyed the trust of people who believed in the vaccine dev process. Pharma deciding the evidence on its own does not have a good track record.
Please reporters and public health officials for the love of god please stop talking about this in the future conditional. It has already happened.

I don’t know if we can fix it. Not in this USA. Not for this pandemic.
I can’t think of a single US-based person I’d trust. Remember: even Fauci lied about masks. And while I do trust MANY epidemiologists public health officials, they do not have the access to ensure the data wasn’t just...made up.

And there will be a lot of pressure to do that.
This thread has been brought to you by seeing one too many articles about how all this “might” make people hesitant to get vaccinated.

“Might.” It has. Even the extremely pro-vaccine people are evaluating this risk and coming up snake eyes.
Fixing it requires things I do not believe the current system can credibly enact. And it requires starting now, not in the hypothetical future when people “might” be troubled by vaccines.

The anti-vax conspiracy theories are no longer conspiracy theories. We made them real.
