1/ I was one of those whose planned training w/a government agency was stopped at the last minute by the Administration, even before this policy was announced, like 6 weeks ago. Interestingly, I wasn't going to say any of the things Trump suggests these trainings entail...
2/ I wasn't going to train people that "white people are inherently racist," or that the U.S. is some intrinsically "evil" place, or anything like that. We were actually going to discuss the way that even well-intended people can perpetuate racial inequity and unfairness...
3/ And how certain systemic policies and procedures can do so, even w/o ANY bigotry in the picture. In other words it was to be the opposite of a guilt-inducing attack on anyone. My key premise was going to be that good people are often caught up in flawed systems...
4/ And that to address systemic racism we must focus LESS on pointing fingers at individual people, and MORE on the way our institutions operate, without sufficient re-examination, even when they produce disparity...
5/ THAT is what the administration wants to ban. THAT, not "un-American" propaganda. When they make it sound like these trainings are attacks on white people or on the country they are gaslighting you. Know that.
6/ Not sure about the larger program that was being used based around White Fragility concepts (Newsweek reported on this) but mine, which was not about that -- but was about systemic racism even without "racists" per se -- was also shit canned at the last minute
