Abhimanyu, the reincarnation of the Varchas, son of the moon-god (Chandra). When the moon-god was asked to let his son incarnate himself on earth, he made a pact that his son will only remain on earth for 16 years as he could not bear to be separated from him.

It is also stated the boon of Abhimanyu, that he will annihilate all the big warriors inside the Chakravyuha, and then only when all the mighty warriors joined together to attack, he will be perished eventually at the end of the day

So, the son of Chandra had his one day of glory on the day of Chakravyuh where he individually defeated all the warriors inside but was ultimately slain at the end due to all of them coming together.

After defeating all the seven maharathis (including Lakshama Kumar, son of Duryodhana, son of Shalya& Karna) Duryodhana ordered all of them to attack him together.

Drona &Karna along with Kritvarma were bound by loyalty to follow his order and attack the child. Abhimanyu did faught everyone their &matched in strength bt Karna on Duryodhana's orders cut his bow,sword,destroyed his chariot &also his wheel of chariot that he threw over Drona.

After getting fully exhausted under attacks, Abhimanyu was challenged by Durshashana's son for a mace fight. There they both suffered a blow to head and fell down, but Durshashan's son got up first and hit Abhimanyu on the head to finally kill him,at the end of the day's fight.

It is said with Abhimanyu's last breath, sun went down as well. So, Karna was as skilled as Arjuna, but that day he wasn't having his celestial bow Vijaya, and Abhimanyu was fighting his glorious day according to his boon that would end in his death but till then eternal glory.

His killing was unjust and changed the course of the war, as killing of a hero this unjustly made Pandavas go far beyond boundaries as well and rules were finally put to an end till Karna took charge.

Abhimanyu was not just a normal warrior. He was a warrior elite.Despite his tender age, he was always held in high esteem by Pandavas and Kauravas alike, owing to his prodigious skill and charisma.
