#OTD in 1548, Katherine Parr, queen consort and 6th wife of Henry VIII, died at Sudeley Castle, not long after giving birth to her daughter Mary Seymour. Today Katherine is commemorated in this stained glass window in the Great Hall at #HamptonCourtPalace (1/4)

As well as a devoted wife to Henry in his final years and a loving stepmother to his 3 children, Katherine was a patron of the arts and an accomplished scholar — the first English queen to write and publish her own books (2/4)

A keen advocate for women’s education, Katherine directly managed the schooling of her stepdaughter Princess Elizabeth, and was an influential model of female leadership for the young princess who would go on to reign for 45 years as Elizabeth I (3/4)
