#Kosovo and #Serbia did not sign a "historical deal". It's not even a deal. They agreed nothing concrete between themselves and there will be no mayor steps in normalizing their relations. It's rather a set of bilateral agreements between them and the USA.
1/12
Despite being presented as a deal for the normalization of economic relations, the days before there was great expectations for mutual recognition between #Kosovo and #Serbia. But it ended with the mutual recognition between Kosovo and... #Israel
2/12
The real achievement of yesterday's no-deal is therefore for the US foreign policy - with special regard to the Middle East - as #Kosovo and #Serbia aligned themselves with Trump's agenda.
3/12
#Serbia will move its embassy to Jerusalem - first European country to do so.
#Kosovo and Serbia designate #Hezbollah as a terrorist organization.
Both things go only to the interest of #Israel. The #Balkans won't benefit from it.
[Fun fact: the document writes "hizballah"]
4/12
Other 2 interesting points: both parties foresee the prohibition of 5G equipment and to diversify their energy supplies. These will mainly affect #Serbia and its relations with #China and #Russia in those sectors.
5/12
Both countries "will work with the 69 countries that criminalize homosexuality to push for decriminalization". While discrimination against LGBT+ community is a serious problem in both countries, I can't understand how will they achieve this point, and why it is there🤷‍♂️
6/12
There is a point in which they pledge to protect the freedom of religion, that regard many things: protection of religious sites; implementation of judicial decisions regarding the Serbian Orthodox Church; the restitution of Holocaust-era Jewish property.
7/12
#Kosovo and #Serbia also agreed a one-year moratorium: Pristina will not seek new membership in international organizations and Belgrade will stop de-recognition campaign.
This reverses the traditional role of the US as main sponsor of Pristina's sovereignty.
8/12
The only points that (maybe) foresee concrete economic cooperation between #Serbia and #Kosovo regard the Belgrade-Pristina highway and rail - both were agreed in February - and to join the "mini-Schengen zone" (announced 1 year ago by Serbia, Albania and North Macedonia).
9/12
The rest is either not related to economic cooperation or it foresees it with the engagement of US agencies in both #Kosovo and #Serbia.
10/12
Interesting to mention:
- no joint signatures (Kosovo signed one document; Serbia another);
- no official cerimony, no handshake between Kosovo PM Avdullah Hoti and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, no family picture of them with Trump.
Very strange for a "historic deal"
11/12
Trump said "there was a lot of fight, now there is a lot of love"...
However, what #Kosovo and #Serbia signed looks like a mixed salad with vegetables, choccolate and yogurt: many unrelated things among themselves, but anyhow the US eat the choccolate.
