Just. Speaking of ratings and DNFs and being a picky reader...

There was an author who wrote the words "Japanese eyes" and "Japanese lettuce pancake" and...

like, I'm sorry, I finished the series because it was in KU and I have no TBR and the plot was vaguely interesting, but.
If someone forced me to rate the book, it would've gotten ...a 2?

Which is why I don't ...review much.

I'm not going to give a book that had the words "Japanese eyes" and "Japanese lettuce pancake" in them more than a 2 star, sorry.
It's not a 1 star because ...aside from ...those awful words I won't type again, somehow the author MOSTLY avoided being a racist ass for the rest of the book and the relationship between the Japanese descent character and the MC wasn't ...*dig your eyes out awful*.
In that book.
But it's awkward because there is no no-star option.
Otherwise, it'd be a 1 star.

So right now 1 star has to run the gamut from "burn it in fire" to "this was bad and I couldn't finish"

...so somehow "this had really bad bits but I did finish the book" gets squished into 2.
Having written this thread, I think...

I need to stop thinking of the 5 star system as some form of Likert scale where the "items exhibit both "symmetry" and "balance"." (from wiki)

1 star can do all the heavy lifting.

Japanese eyes gets 1 star... https://twitter.com/KatjeXia/status/1302246533765582851?s=20
