One of my first startup ideas that never really took off, not because it was a bad idea, but because it was way too good.
So much so that Google launched it.
It’s called “Insights”, a feature in Google Analytics and now also Google Search Console.

1. Advantage of being long enough in an industry is you know exactly what is missing/broken.
2. Location is critical: I spent almost all my time just looking for the right team that could build this, couldn’t find it.
3. Timing: Took too long to launch MVP, Google launched it in 6 months flat.
4. Pick your battles wisely: It was silly for me to think I could build it. Companies like Google can kill such products overnight, unless you build fast and make it worth their while for an acquisition.
5. People > Products: Too many startups fail trying to build the best product. They should really be focusing on building what they CAN, with the team that they have.
Example, with 2 people team we sold 100 licenses of WP AMP Ninja in less than a month of launch, because we could built it.
6. Don’t chase funding: I spent a lot of energy trying to acquire seed funding, and I did, but that time could have been better spent in building the product. Build a good product, money will follow. Don’t try the other way round.
7. Fun fact: One institutional investor is still following up after 3 years, they have more faith in me than I do for myself. Never underestimate yourself.
8. Always keep looking for good talent. Ideas are abundant, architects are far and few.
