There's a gathering of a couple hundred heavily armed people at Cox Park in Louisville this morning. Organizers say it's a "patriot rally" in support of police
Dylan Stevens, who calls himself "The Angry Viking," says "they're coming to your cul de sacs, they're coming to take your businesses." Says people call him a white supremacist but he's not
Stevens says "When the history books are rewritten in 15, 20 years we're going to be on the right side of it."
Stevens says Louisville police have "been through hell," that they put their loves on the line "to separate the sheep from the wolves"
A speaker says "we are standing in the gap in defense of the very soul of this nation"
The speaker claims that only 9,200 people have died of coronavirus. Goes through a list of things people supposedly can't do anymore... people can't drink sweet tea, grandma can't sit on her porch, kids can't ride their bikes
A demonstrator shows up with a sign saying "Louisville does not need your guns." They eventually urge him to write "1st Amendment" on his sign, and push him to the edge of the parking lot
The group of armed demonstrators are heading to Waterfront Park and plan to march to the courthouse downtown
I did not see any police officers at the event
The demonstrators have gathered in the parking lot by Slugger Field
Um. This guy is handing out wasp spray and Raid, says "it's better than mace"
This guy is also carrying Raid
They're marching
The group is marching through downtown Louisville. Still haven't seen a single police officer
The gun/police protesters and the Black Lives Matter protesters are getting close to eachother
Protesters clash in downtown Louisville
The "Angry Viking" protesters are leaving the area
The armed militia has left and now police have shown up
The mostly-white armed militia has left downtown Louisville. LMPD arrives on the scene with only Black Lives Matter protesters remaining
Louisville police are outfitted in riot gear with pepper ball guns and long clubs
Cops have filed out
Louisville police say they had most of their resources at Churchill Downs and that's why they weren't around when the militia was gathering in Cox Park at 8:00 am/marching on downtown.

Officers suddenly showed up after militia left and it was only BLM downtown.
LMPD says "it wasn't safe" for them to try and break up the skirmish/shoutfest between militia/BLM downtown "we did not want to escalate the situation with police presence."

LMPD has not been shy about breaking up much more peaceful protests than this earlier.
