Title defenses are super necessary and the longer the streak the better you are. But not everyone gets offered a titleshot as easily as some do. It can also vary from one division to another and from time to time (new era will be tougher).

Anderson Silva. Who many consider p4p GOAT. A legend nonetheless.

Demetrius Johnson& #39;s skills get brushed aside by uninformed fans as "fly weight is midgets" despite DJ being amongst the smaller guys even at FLW. Others say DJ fought cans even though flyweights are some of the most talented fighters. Dj took their shine by his dominance.

IN COMPARISON

Khabib hasn& #39;t had nearly as easy of a road to receive his title shot. Had he been able to land a titleshot so early in his career as some of these other GOATs he would no doubt have more title defenses by now.

Jones - 3 consecutive UFC wins for TS

Silva - 1 UFC win for TS

DJ (BW) - 2 consecutive UFC wins for TS
DJ (FLW) - 1 UFC win for TS

Lets acknowledge that when considering who the GOATs are we must look at multiple factors. Rather than just title defenses alone. In some cases they dont tell the whole story. Khabibs dominance is undeniable. 28 fights only ever lost one close round in toughest division.

Honorable mention

Its much harder to get titleshots now than it used to be. Especially in the stacked divisions. For example WW. Kamaru Usman also had to win 9 consecutive fights before he recieved his title shot. Its tougher for almost everybody now than it used to be.
