Something that bothers me

Imagine a friend has trauma associated with men, and in frustration says “men are shit”. Do I:

1. Listen and understand to the root of the problem
2. Get offended and make it about me

Too few people are capable of stepping outside of themselves.
This is why #NotAllMen is basically a meme now. This is why people freak out about #BlackLivesMatter . They’re selfish, quick to anger, and can’t imagine what caused those feelings, whether from a place of privilege or a lack of empathy.
I decided to try to take these things less personally. The friend that says men are shit doesn’t hate me. Black lives mattering doesn’t mean mine doesn’t. If you can’t add to the conversation, maybe don’t speak up. If you’re going to make it about you, absolutely don’t speak up.
