1/ To see multiple Young Labour activists being harassed, abused and threatened this week is completely unacceptable conduct during an election campaign. All wings of the Labour Party have a responsibility to work towards a more inclusive and welcoming youth section.
2/ At 7pm on 13th September we are hosting a Zoom workshop for our Under 27 members on how we build a winning movement. A democratic and accountable youth wing, where politics is conducted in a healthy way in an inclusive, welcoming and safe environment, is an absolute necessity.
3/ This week's incidents are part of a wider hostile culture in Young Labour where bullying and aggressive communication has been normalised, both during and outside of elections. Some members cite the youth wing as having a negative impact on their mental health.
4/ We believe this toxic culture has existed in Young Labour for years now and risks being an unsafe space. We’d like to issue a reminder that all adults in the Labour Party have safeguarding responsibilities, and that the spirit of our party must be to look out for one another.
