This thread of tweets out of the 7 I’m planning to post about Josh will probably be the longest...

Context: Mount Portmanteau wasn’t meant to revolve around Josh as a main character at all. Tonight’s thread goes over a summary of MP, but mostly highlighting Josh’s parts.
The threads are all about Josh’s “lives,” but this one is more about a summary of MP as a whole. This one will be longer because it has more content.

I made the other lives because I wanted closure for Josh.
But anyway! I’m going to start!

Life 1: Original
The story begins late at night in the woods on December 8, 2010 in Portmanteau.

Portmanteau is a small rural town in Vermont, having a wide variety of wildlife and a very mountainous terrain.
In the woods, we see a little group of boys walking together in a line...

The boy in front is Josh, the smallest, yet oldest kid of the three.

Behind him is Alex, and following Alex is Cole.
Cole begins to express his concerns with how late it is, and suggests that they should start heading back to Alex’s house, worried they’ll get lost.

Alex tries to reassure him and tells him that they’ll go right back once they do reach the park, the place they’re searching for.
Cole isn’t satisfied with this response, and they begin to argue about what to do.

Josh, on the other hand, decides to go exploring a bit on his own away from the other two. He wanders off deeper into the forest, leaving behind footprints in the snow.
Josh then soon finds himself a bit lost, and feels the night getting colder. He starts to get chills, but decides to stay right where he is, assuming that it’ll be faster for them to find him if he stays in one place.
Cole and Alex do eventually stop arguing, and realize that Josh had disappeared. They spot his track and quickly go to chase him down.

However, as Josh is staying put, a thick fog begins to roll in and he suffocates in the gas.
Cole and Alex then get suffocated in the gas as well, and all three pass out.

There is then a flashback to earlier that day, where we see a girl named Tara leaving school. She meets up with her friends, Cole, Alex, and Josh to go stay over at Alex’s house for a while.
Cole and Josh would be able to sleepover at his house for the night, but since Tara’s a girl, she would have to go back home at some point.

This wasn’t too much of a problem, since Tara lived fairly close to Alex’s house and could simply walk home anytime.
At some point the four of them started getting bored, so Tara recommended they go check out this abandoned park that she used to hang out at. They agree it’d be a fun idea, but Tara realizes that she needs to go home soon. So, she decides to write down the directions-
on a piece of scrap paper and gives it to them to follow.

However, Tara doesn’t realize that she gave them the directions they’d follow if they were at her house, not Alex’s, and she goes home without a thought about it.
Tara basically goes to school the next day and finds that they’ve gone missing. Time passes and they’re basically declared dead, and Tara keeps growing up and goes to college, graduating with a degree in Zoology.

The case with the boys disappearing is somewhat similar to-
the case with Tara’s several missing family members... but neither have been legally resolved.

Before Tara searches for a job, Tara decides to come back to her old home to take a break, but discovers letters under her fig tree with no names or any content other than-
random directions through the forest. Cautiously, Tara decides to follow these directions, and packs some supplies and heads off.

When the directions end, Tara finds herself at a house in the middle of the woods.
Tara finds that the door has no lock and decides to walk in to explore.

The house shows definite signs of living, with clean water and electricity. She walks into the living room and finds an open door in the floor leading down to a basement.
She goes through the door and walks down the steps... and finds that the basement leads off into two different rooms. Tara decides to enter the one on the left, and takes out her flashlight...
Tara is then basically jumped on by a monster, but escapes and drops her flashlight while doing so.

She finds herself in the room on the right, and tries to feel around to look for a way out, but touches something soft.

She hears a loud screech, and something grabs her ankle.
It begins to drag her away, and Tara accidentally slams her head on a wall and passes out while trying to escape.
Tara then wakes up in a bedroom... and the closet door slams shut. She calls out to see if anyone is there, and someone from inside the closet answers...

Tara is terrified and tries to question and force him out, thinking he’s the one who sent her the letters and is-
probably a serial killer...

But he promises her that he’s not, and that he was even the one who saved her from dying in the basement, grabbing her and inadvertently knocking her out trying to get her out of there.
Tara, who had packed a pocket knife with her, tries to threaten him out with it to take a picture of his face to try to identify if he is some kind of criminal... but he decides to come out before she resorted to violence... and both of them are horrified, but confused.
