Do you know India has 9 species of #vultures.

They are ecosystem doctors. But in recent years we have lost 90-99% of vulture population in India. Eg white-backed vulture faced a 99.9% decrease whereas slender-billed & long-billed vulture faced 97% decrease.

#VultureAwarenessDay
Many reasons for their decline. But prime reason behind reduction in Vulture population in India was use of Diclofenac in cattle drugs. This cause acute renal failure & they die.

That is why now diclofenac is banned in cattle drugs.
Many conservation breeding programs are also ongoing with good results from Pinjor to Buxa. Where they are raised & later released in wild.

Some of them are equipped with Platform Terminal Transmitters for tracking & to keep a close watch. For study also.
Vultures complete the cycle of life & death in the wild. They clean the environment by scavenging on dead bodies. They are natural ecosystem engineers. So clearly their ongoing extinction is not a good news. n/n
