This article is trash, I’ll explain why for my fellow brothers and sisters using screenshots, so that I’m not misquoting anyone. https://twitter.com/erinblogan/status/1301849534985908224
This is mixed, the reason ppl actually protested is because there has been a growing anti-racist sentiment in this country. Something the LA Times, NY Times, and to a degree Washington Post ignores is there is also a huge contingent of white supremacists also growing...
Did the sociologist factor in school shootings? Did they factor in Nazis walking around and flying actual Nazi flags? Did they factor in that actual antifascists have dealt with this since before Charlottesville? I don’t see that here.
Yes, Black Lives Matter is a present concern, but the approach being used has been proven to be ineffective. I think there’s a bit too much critique here on the side of what white activists are doing, and not more of a critique as to what we (Black folks) are not doing.
I’ll get to that in a little bit but, the main point about this is that politics has everything to do with this. White supremacy (and I don’t mean obvious Nazis and Klan, I mean the institution) can have its power, if a system of white supremacy is allowed to exist.
That said, where do we identify this structure? It’s not on a local level, in other words, it’s not just cops, and mayors, or Nazis. This shoots all the way up to the top...indeed, the entire capitalist system. You can’t find justice in a system of exploitation.
So, it’s actually the other way around, the only way that Black lives can truly matter, and will actually flourish and live better is to eliminate the system of oppression and it’s agents (cops, mayors, the govt itself).
When I say that we don’t focus on what we should be doing, I mean that we bark and make noise, we want to focus on MLK and show white leaders we can articulate ourselves, and appeal to the moral base of an immoral institution.
In other words, going out and wanting yourself to be heard is pretty wild, because they hear us, shit, they can see us. But that doesn’t matter to them. Gentrifying the movement isn’t what I’d call it. I think our white comrades are showing solidarity with us...
And instead of playing the sideline, go out and actually do something. They know the consequences of what will happen if *we* do it, because Black Lives don’t matter to those in power. As I said, you want to go out and protest, okay...to who? Isn’t it the same...
Political structure that you are begging for action from? If so, then how is this not political? Anarchists understand that the only way for racial justice to happen, is if the power structure is dismantled. Many Black folks want to keep capitalism and think that...
Somehow, some way, the system can continue and be economically equitable to Black folks. How do you think this country got so rich? This is a terrible piece and I think it focuses more or on seeing too many white faces and not enough Black ones. In that case, is it our fault?
Shouldn’t we be out there en masse? I’m sure your editor decided to agree to this because it would sew division into a movement. We’re not dumb, and perhaps you would do well to learn about anarchy, solidarity, and actual Black liberation. So yeah...
