So honestly I wanted to come on here and just talk about the past experiences we had with Dr. Stout at the Delano Veterinary Hospital bc I feel like everyone has a right to know for the sake of their fur babies. Our gizmo had gotten worse this past month with health issues
He had started vomit bile, had chronic diarrhea, and became very lethargic. He wasn’t himself and we knew something was very wrong. We took him to Dr. Stout twice in August, and just recently this month. He did bloodwork and everything was normal
He treated my gizmo with antibiotics, however my mom and I persisted on him doing something more to find out what was wrong with gizmo bc nothing was helping him. He continued to get worse. On sept 1st, we took him for the 3rd time and finally asked if he can check for cancer
Or anything serious like that, he replied to my mom with “I’m not too worried about that” and shrugged it off. He admitted that he really didn’t have an explanation for gizmo and if things got worse, to bring him back.
That was already the third time, and by then my parents had easily spent over 1,000 altogether by taking him and running tests and all that when nothing was working for gizmo. Never did he take x rays, or bother to go out of his way to see what else could be going on
Not to mention, Gizmo had a perineal hernia on his butt from all the straining my poor baby was doing trying to poop :/ and dr stout clearly told us that his hernia wasn’t causing his issues. He gave gizmo an IV and just sent us out with antibiotics yet again
Gizmo progressively got worse. Yesterday morning he woke me up and seemed so restless, I took him outside and his diarrhea persisted all throughout the day. He never stopped panting bc he was in so much pain, fast forward to the evening and he started pooping out blood
I panicked, and knew my baby was in a lot of pain. My mom and I rushed him to the Bakersfield veterinary hospital (open 24 hours) and the vet there immediately saw how much pain he was in, looked at his hernia and explained to us that his hernia was a serious issue
And not easy to fix. While dr stout was telling us it wasn’t the issue. Dr. Keith (bakersfield) knew right away to perform a rectal exam on gizmo, he came back and told us that he felt his prostate severely enlarged. He proceeded to wanna do x rays to confirm
Dr. Keith came and showed us the picture of gizmo’s x-ray, and gizmo’s intestinal tract was severely inflamed, and showed his descending colon being extremely constricted by his prostate which explained why he was struggling to poop. & the lack of his appetite.
Gizmo was no longer wanting to really eat anymore. Dr. Keith explained to us that his prostate could have a mass that’s benign, or it could be cancerous. He gave us the steps of what needed to be done for gizmo, but unfortunately, would have been too much at his age.
We had to make the most difficult decision to put our gizmo down, he was in so much pain and did not deserve to suffer. I honestly think his suffering went on longer than it should have because dr stout didn’t go the extra mile for my gizmo. He completely dissed our concerns
I truly feel like Dr. Stout took advantage of us, and knew that since we did everything for gizmo to feel better, he knew we’d keep going back and therefore he’d keep getting the money out of us. All that needed to be done was a rectal exam and x ray!! He never did!
I wanted to talk about this bc I’m sure his mentality is to just get as much money out of everyone as much as he can. We trusted him, but that was our mistake and for that, our gizmo suffered. Everyone with pets deserve to know bc he definitely could be doing it to everyone else
In conclusion please please guys always get a second opinion. Dr. Stout is not to be trusted. If you have a gut feeling there’s something more going on with your fur baby, PLEASE trust it. We will no longer be going to Dr. Stout ever again.
Btw, if any of your fur babies have a dire emergency, please consider the Bakersfield veterinary hospital. It’s open 24 hours. Dr. Keith was so kind and gentle with my baby gizmo. And also affordable! Dr. Stout feels entitled to charge so much bc he’s the only vet in Delano!
