Everytime someone suggests I watch The Boys
PS "It's not as bad as the comics" isn't a selling point.

The comic was horrific and never should have been given an adaptation.

Watered down sewage will still give you cholera.
Dude.

Dude. Oh, my dude.

The comic has more sexual assaults in the first ten issues than I've got fingers and someone taped a hamster up their own anus.

It's a shit-smeared toddler trying to walk around in daddy's shoes. https://twitter.com/theDwarf/status/1302109288110882816
The comic of The Boys spends far more time on vile sexual assaults, threats of sexual assaults, and coercive sex than it does on any message it's attempting to convey.

Every time it tries to speak, it gets distracted doing this:
"I'm going to comment on the military industrial complex and 9/11, but first here's a two page spread featuring analogs of all your favorite superheroes having a drug-fuelled orgy."
"Sure, branding is terrible, but have you ever imagined what would happen if Professor X was a child molester? And also here's some racism I found in my closet I thought I'd include for a laugh."
"I've forgotten the point I was trying to make but here's a bunch of neurodivergent and mentally challenged superheroes to point and laugh at. The *really* stupid one wets himself and sprays piss everywhere!"
"HEY DID ANYONE EVER MAKE A JOKE ABOUT BATMAN FUCKING ROBIN BECAUSE I HAVE AN IDEA OH AND BONUS BATMAN HAS A TUMOR IN HIS HEAD CAUSING HIM TO SEXUALLY ASSAULT PEOPLE."
But sure.

Sure, The Boys was trying to "critique" things.

Sure.

Was that before or after introducing a character who has to drink his mother's milk for his entire life or die, and also his mother is a horribly mutated beast with tentacle tits?
I'm not even going to talk about the inclusion of trans characters, because if you've read this thread you can probably guess how it handles the subject matter.
Up until Preacher.

Preacher was a tipping point. It was beautiful at times and then dove off a cliff at others. He had less oversight, less restrictions, and he started to push boundaries.

By the time of The Boys, he went so far he got dropped by DC. https://twitter.com/benwoodtweet/status/1302116119046742017
And hey, fun trivia: guess what publisher picked up The Boys after DC washed their hands of the book?

Dynamite Comics.

Maybe you've heard about them on Twitter lately.
RIGHT?

Amazon had one of the best superhero comedies I've ever seen *right there* but instead they ditched it for the fucky gory rapey one. https://twitter.com/NanoxVox/status/1302113394200207362

To be honest, among all the other shit that one was tame. https://twitter.com/firingwall/status/1302213741371625472
1) Oh, you got here late? Because early on in this thread, I noted: "Watered down sewage can still give you cholera."

2) Sure thing Firstname Bunchanumbers.
Except, y'know ... people can't fly.

You've identified the core of Ennis' work in relation to superheros. He thinks people are shit and hates the idea of the love of these stories, so he attempts to make superhero fans miserable. https://twitter.com/Selftoken/status/1302220794580344833
Pointing out that if someone had superpowers they'd likely just be a shithead isn't a shocking revelation or particularly insightful.

It's a juvenile, nihilistic rationale to justify making comics with "heroes" like "O Father," a serial pedophile.
I mean ... no.

You want the core ideology of a terrible story, just made more palatable to the masses.

That doesn't make it stop being an adaptation of a bad story, it just means less people will be revolted.

Have your cake and eat it too. https://twitter.com/Lt_Cmdr_Radner/status/1302222644138381313
The ... same place he got the idea it's hilarious and presents it as a joke?

You seriously tried to use that gif, huh? https://twitter.com/Selftoken/status/1302227191401451521
See guys? The show just has superheroes raping each other.

No need to worry. Thank god it's not the actual comic, right? Whew. https://twitter.com/KladdaghReviews/status/1302227881989419011
