y’all don’t know what “trauma porn” means and it’s upsetting me and my homegirls.
i’m tired of “slave movies” because they’ve become fantastical. they don’t tell more than one type of story.

but to just flat out claim to be tired of them because they’re “the only Black cinema” or they’re “trauma porn” are both lies lol.
what y’all *mean* to say is that you only want films that aren’t about Black people suffering, and to that i’d ask, are we not always? is our pain and suffering not as much of who we are as anything else?
i’d love if these films could be more honest. if they could showcase all the varying emotions and experiences found on the plantation. i’d love that. but suffering is part of the Black experience lol.
slavery is part of who we are, y’all. and a lot came of it that wasn’t just folks being whipped in fields. the Black Liberation Movement started *there*. there is no way we can talk about us, freedom, or happiness without also talking about slavery.
