My 10 Years of Dragon*Con thread 😊✨🐉
Technically, my first experience with Dragon*Con was 2009. I went to the Saturday morning parade with my dad (he’s been going for who knows how long), and I absolutely fell in love. Considered buying a 1 day ticket, but they were so expensive. We decided to go next year
2010! Baby’s first con!

We started trying to put together a Raven cosplay just a bit too close to con, and my gorgeous blue velvet cape didn’t arrive on time. Still, I had an amazing time, got art by George Perez and Mike McKone, and had my first real con experience
2011!

My grandmother gave me money to spend during my summer exchange program. I used to to commission my Artemis cosplay! Then, my dad and I decided to build a guitar so I could cosplay Ember as well.

I had a bad reaction to the body paint and ended up crying—
We had to take the paint off my face before I could even leave the house. After that, I cried in the car for a long time before coming inside, and then everything was great. My BFF Izzy was with me as Miss Martian and Kitty that weekend

Also, those shoes are made of wood 🙃
2012!

I was big into Doctor Who then. Met Ellen McLain with my Turret cosplay, hung out with Amy and Izzy and managed to be maybe second row for John Barrowman’s first ever DCon panel. He told us not to eat at Chuck Fil A, and I never have since
2013 got massively overshadowed by other cons, I think. I don’t seem to have any pictures from the con, and my main memory is of being overstimulated and unable to put on any of my cosplay, even though I had groups

2013 was the year I started doing panels, but not at D*C
That’s not to say 2013 wasn’t an incredible year overall.

I was on my first panel, won my first (tiny) cosplay contest, hosted my first panel, and sewed my first cosplay all by myself. A HUGE year of personal growth tbh
2014, Red World hosted the first (non-professional) Ask-a-Character panels on the Anime track.

They also ended up being the most popular panels that track had ever had.

Also, our humanized Aristocats photo shoot was ridiculously cute
Also, I brought Freckles (Doll) and bloody!Madam Red from Black Butler. The Madam I’d done before (but haven’t done since) and Freckles was brand new

I have a vague memory of meeting voice actor for Finn from Adventure Time while covered in blood
Gonna take a snack break. May pick back up later or even tomorrow
2015 was the year of so many panels.

We had RWBY, Danny Phantom, Young Justice, a Steven Universe discussion, the first Mystery of Gravity Falls panel (our escape the room format). Plus, I got the last minute urge to cosplay Reverse Falls, which lead to our whole dang webseries
Dragon*Con 2016 was the last convention before Red World Productions disbanded.

I participated in 6 panels, including the second Gravity Falls Mystery (Reversed!) and ended with a Hetalia: Ask a Nation panel. Ironically, the first panel RW hosted also became our last
In 2017 I was sick!!!!!!

It hit suddenly on Thursday and I spent most of the con feverish in our hotel room. I eventually made it to just 2 panels, and was able to do 2 cosplays in one night. I also took the best damn shower of my life, I swear
In 2018 my sister and I decided it was time to write another mystery theatre. The panel itself had a lot of issues, but our Addam’s Family cast looked incredible.
I also got to meet a lot of my RTF friends in person for the very first time, + guested on a RWBY panel
2019 was the year of the great Aly and AJ speaker fire (RIP), Steampunk princesses, my dad the Carpet Beetle, and a whole lot of in person time with RTF friends. Also, after meeting George Perez 9 years prior, I finally met Marv Wolfman. Also, first time EVER in the games room
I also got to do makeup for a few friends in 2019 and it was amazing. You can sort of see me leveling up each year, so doing makeup on other people felt like the New Frontier

Oh! And we had a meet up with RTF Fans and I accidentally offered a kid “crack cocaine” (blue sugar!)
It’s strange looking back at this convention over a solid decade. There are people in this thread I haven’t talked to in years. There are people I’ve come to dislike, and people I’ve come to miss terribly. But reguardless of the players, the memories I choose to keep are good
Time washes away the stressful moments, the itchy wigs, or the stupid questions. We forget how bad our feet hurt, or how hungry we were when we forgot to eat. We’ll always regret the panels we missed, or the celebrities we were too shy to talk to, but overall we had fun
I’m incredibly sad that Dragon*Con couldn’t happen this year, but I appreciate this chance to reminisce.

The present may suck in so many ways, but I can still look fondly on the past, and hope that means the future holds good things as well 😊
